We saved Tuff 61 percent
Prior to working with Verblio, Tuff leveraged a network of 50+ freelancers collected from personal connections, previous projects, and third-party sources, such as UpWork. Sourcing their content was time-intensive, labor-intensive, costly, and not scalable.
Agency Case Study | Growth Marketing Agency
Tuff is a growth marketing agency dedicated to helping startups and scaleups find sustainable growth. Tuff manages their partner’s growth marketing strategies and execution, including (but not limited to) PPC, paid social, and SEO efforts.
With a diverse client base from DTC to fintech, finding experienced freelancers with the right industry and SEO experience at an affordable rate was hard.
Whenever Tuff took on a new project, their team of growth marketers would contact anywhere from five to ten freelancers they knew in that particular client's industry.
If none of the freelancers in Tuff’s network had the bandwidth for additional content production, then Tuff would post a listing on UpWork to source new freelancers.
This process of identifying freelancers, onboarding them, and starting content production took significant time and resources. Worse, it would often delay the onboarding process of a new client:
“In the first 30 days of a partnership, we aspire to tackle low-hanging fruit and begin driving data from our initial campaign launches,” says Richard Meyer, a growth marketer at Tuff. “If the content production timeline is pushed back, this means we often don’t have our first ready-to-publish deliverables until after the first 30 days of the partnership."
The inflexible nature of Tuff’s existing internal SEO blog writing service process showcased the need for a better solution.
Tuff had 3 pain points around their SEO blog writing services:
Wasting time and energy
Onboarding new freelancers
delayed content production
Specialized content freelancers
"Getting quick wins and being scrappy is a huge component of why our clients choose Tuff, so we searched for a solution that would help us improve our timeline.”
The Tuff team learned of Verblio through our sponsorship with Superpath, a community of content marketers led by Jimmy Daly. "Anything Jimmy recommends, I trust," says Tuff founder Ellen Jantsch.
That trust was well-placed: Whatever the client's industry, Tuff could tap Verblio writers with the expertise they needed, at a cost that allowed them to stay focused on growth.
“The wide talent pool in Verblio’s blog writing services provides a quick, reliable, and effective solution for our content production needs. Our partners get faster results at the same quality as our specialized content freelancers, at a fraction of the cost.”

In addition to quality, cost, and scalability, Verblio checked all of Tuff's boxes:
Additional services: The ability to add on components such as photos and videos was a big advantage over the limited options their freelancers could provide.
SEO friendly blog writing services: The ability to add SEO guidelines and provide feedback to writers means better SERP outcomes for Tuff's clients.
Customizable plans: Need a blog post for one partner, but a landing page for another? With Verblio, Tuff can create multiple subscriptions to manage different content needs in a matter of minutes.
Thanks to our network of writers, Tuff can quickly get every client's content up and running, meaning quicker deliverables and quicker data. They can add and scale content without running into freelancer bandwidth issues, and they no longer have to dig to find expert writers in niche industries.
“Verblio is the sweet spot of quality, affordability, and reliability," Richard says. "I’ve been thrilled to see how Verblio has made a tremendous impact on our SEO blog writing services in such a short time.”
Within a month, Tuff was saving over 61 percent on their content production costs.
Richard tracked the numbers, and the results were immediate. Getting 5,000 words from Verblio was approximately 61 percent cheaper than the average freelancer cost Tuff was paying previously.
Those savings wouldn't be worth it, though, if those words required hours of editing. Tuff doesn't have any editors in-house, so it's important that any outsourced partner provide the same quality as their freelancer network. Fortunately for them, we checked that box, too: The time spent editing and optimizing a post from a Verblio writer took approximately the same amount of time as editing and optimizing a post from one of Tuff's individual freelancers.
From onboarding through deliverables, Verblio streamlined Tuff's process while allowing their team to continue providing the quality results their clients expect.
“Saving time and money while delivering great results for our partners allows us to continue to grow and expand. A simple thing, like an improved process, helps keep us on the right growth trajectory and keeps Tuff a great place to work.”
